Writers from the four corners of the world address Europe in a letter. They
talk about Fort Europa, the land of milk and honey, an impossible
patchwork, a rich variety, a giant on feet of clay, a utopia.
They ask questions. Is Europe an impossible construction? Where are its
borders? Sometimes they are harsh and critical, sometimes hopeful and
enthusiastic. But they always display tremendous curiosity about the future
of the old continent.

Bekende en minder bekende poëzielezers stonden voor hun boekenkast en
selecteerden een gedicht dat iets bijzonders voor hen betekende, dat hen
ontroerde, verontrustte of intrigeerde, dat hen verleidde of hen trof.
Deze bundel is het resultaat van dat geflirt met de boekenkast: een
bloemlezing van lievelingsgedichten. Met onder meer Wannes Vande Velde,
Geert van Istendael, Betty Mellaerts en Chris Lomme. De opbrengst van dit boek gaat integraal naar Oikonde Leuven, een dienst pleegzorg voor volwassenen.

The European Constitution in Verse (Brussels: Passa Porta/Vrijdag, 2009), ed. David Van Reybrouck & Peter Vermeersch, a project of the Brussels Poetry Collective
Fifty-two poets from all over Europe, including migrants and refugees,
contributed to a long and unique poem filled with dreams and despair
about Europe. The project was more than a frivolous rehash of a
political fiasco; it was an attempt to reposition the debate on Europe's
future where it firmly belongs, in the public sphere of free and
committed citizens.
The European Constitution in Verse was written in more than 30 languages. It is available in Dutch, French and English translation. In 2011 the original version together with the Dutch translation was published as "Neem bijvoorbeeld graniet: De Europese grondwet in verzen" (De Bezige Bij, Amsterdam).
